SHELBYVILLE, Ind. — The City of Shelbyville will host its third annual State of the City with a refreshed, conversation-driven format designed to provide residents with a clearer understanding of where the city stands today and what lies ahead at the Wortman Family Civic Theatre (1416 Miller Ave Shelbyville, IN 46176) on Friday, January 30, 2026. Doors will open at 11:30 am with the panel discussion beginning at noon.
This year’s event replaces a single extended presentation with a moderated panel discussion featuring local leaders representing municipal operations, economic development, education, business, and tourism. The discussion will focus on current initiatives, ongoing challenges, and future opportunities shaping Shelbyville’s direction.
Panelists include:
Scott Furgeson, Mayor — Municipal Operations
Brian Asher, Executive Director, Shelby County Development Corporation — Economic Development & Industry
Dr. Matt Vance, Superintendent — Shelbyville Central Schools
Courtney Chapella, Executive Director, Shelby County Chamber of Commerce — Business & Workforce
Rachael Ackley, Executive Director, Shelby County Tourism & Visitors Bureau — Tourism
The discussion will be facilitated by Jenna Martin, Director of Public Relations for the City of Shelbyville. “This format allows residents to hear directly from decision-makers across multiple sectors and better understand how our city functions as a whole,” Martin said. “The goal is clarity, transparency, and meaningful connection.”
This event is free and open to the public. Due to the fixed seating capacity of the Wortman Family Civic Theatre, attendees are asked to RSVP online for planning purposes. A live stream will be available for those who are unable to attend in person.
RSVPs via likes, comments, or event interest on social media will not be honored. Attendees must RSVP online here: https://linktr.ee/shelbyco_chamberin
