[ARCHIVED] CITY OF SHELBYVILLE AWARDED OVER $1 MILLION THROUGH COMMUNITY CROSSINGS MATCHING GRANT PROGRAM

INDOT CCMG

Shelbyville, IN – [November 7, 2024] – The City of Shelbyville is proud to announce that it has been awarded $1,072,930.50 in matching funds through the Indiana Department of Transportation's (INDOT) Community Crossings Matching Grant (CCMG) program. This grant will be used to improve the city’s infrastructure by funding crucial road and bridge improvement projects, further enhancing the safety, efficiency, and quality of life for Shelbyville residents.

The announcement comes as part of a statewide effort by Governor Eric J. Holcomb’s *Next Level Roads* initiative, which awarded nearly $140 million to 223 communities across Indiana in the 2024 fall call for projects. Governor Holcomb and INDOT gathered at the Pike County Courthouse today to recognize the grant recipients and highlight the program’s significant impact on local transportation infrastructure since its inception in 2016.

"Community Crossings has been an annual highlight over the years," said Governor Holcomb. "The fact that nearly 14,000 miles of road and over 200 local bridges have been replaced or rehabilitated through this program since 2017 is simply astonishing, in addition to countless economic and quality of life benefits in hundreds of communities across Indiana."

Shelbyville is using the awarded funds to enhance its local road network and ensure long-term sustainability. The projects selected for this round of funding include:

These projects will have a direct impact on our community by improving road safety and accessibility, which is a top priority for our team. We’re grateful to the state for this opportunity to continue our progress."

Since its inception, the Community Crossings initiative has provided over $1.8 billion in state matching funds for local road projects. INDOT Commissioner Mike Smith emphasized the program's widespread impact, noting that "This program has impacted communities in all 92 Indiana counties, most more than once. The dedication and hard work of local agencies like Shelbyville are driving positive change for Hoosiers statewide."

Shelbyville looks forward to seeing the improvements unfold and continuing to work with state partners to ensure long-term success and growth for the city.
