Sidewalk

The City of Shelbyville Street Department conducts an Annual Sidewalk Program each spring and summer. This program is available to all residential property owners within the city limits. To participate, residents must contact the Street Department to be added to the program list, with approximately 50 participants accepted each year.

Once a resident is added to the list, the Street Department will schedule a visit to measure the specific sections of sidewalk the homeowner wishes to replace. The measurements will be provided to the homeowner, who is responsible for taking them to Shelby Materials on Rampart Road to purchase the required concrete. Shelby Materials will then verify payment with the Street Department, and the labor for the sidewalk replacement will be provided at no cost to the homeowner.

Please note: the program does not include the replacement of driveways or walkways leading directly to homes. However, the walkway from the street to the sidewalk may be included. Sidewalk maintenance remains the responsibility of the homeowner.
